Reader Questions You Should Always Answer As An Author

By Mackenzie Harrison

A part of being an author is building relationships and trust with your readers and ensuring that their questions are answered. They may ask where to buy your book or about a character. There may even be questions that either you can’t answer or you want to leave up to interpretation, which is understandable. However, there are some questions that need to be answered. This way, your readers feel more connected to you, questions don’t go unanswered, and there’s a higher chance that they become loyal, long-term fans of yours.

Below, we’ll cover reader questions you should always answer as an author.

Let’s begin!

Where Can I Purchase Your Book?

It’s important that you don’t assume people know where to purchase your books. If this question is left unanswered, they will likely give up and find another book or author to purchase from, and you miss out on a sale.

Make sure your website and social media platforms have clear, working links to your books. If possible, add links to your promotional graphics that lead readers right to your books.

Do You Have Social Media?

Social media as an author is incredibly important. It’s how readers can stay connected to you or how other people can discover you and your work. Make sure you have visible, working links to your social media platforms on your website, in newsletters, etc.

Do You Have A Newsletter?

Never underestimate the power of a newsletter. Newsletters can be one of the best ways for authors to stay connected with their readers. This is where you can provide readers with announcements, updates, exclusive books or extended endings, new releases, etc. You can use graphics to promote your newsletter so people know where to sign up.

Is Your Book Part Of A Series?

This question is important to address ahead of time. The last thing you want is for someone to read book 3 of a series, then realize they missed out on a lot of the story. It creates confusion and frustration.

Make sure you label each book whether it’s a standalone or book 2 of a series. If your book is part of a series, maybe have a page on your website that clearly lays out the order of each book.

Turn Questions Into Content

Do you feel like you answer the same questions over and over again? Instead of constantly answering each individual person, you can turn questions into content to ensure no question goes unanswered. You can create a FAQs page on your website, a social media post or video answering questions, or a newsletter answering common questions. This creates content while also making it easier for your readers to have the information they may be looking for at their fingertips.

In Conclusion

Ensuring that your readers’ common questions are answered is important. It strengthens your connection with readers and creates a better reading experience for them.
